Petit Manan Refuge & LighthouseWith a surface area of 6,367 acres the Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge is one of the five refuges that together make up the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. All totaled, the refuge includes approximately 8,238 acres of diverse coastal Maine habitats including forested and non-forested offshore islands, coastal salt marsh, open fields, and upland mature spruce-fir forest. Perhaps best of all, Petit Manan is home to the Atlantic Puffin (please read my blog regarding these amazing creatures)!

Pigeon HillThe Pigeon Hill Road trail is an easy/moderate 1.2 mile long trail which leads to Pigeon Hill’s summit at 317 feet above sea level. The Historic Trail, the Silver Mine Trail, and the Summit Loop Trail all have some steep and rocky sections. The steepest section of the trail network is located on the Historic Trail near the summit. The hill offers commanding views of Pigeon Hill Bay to the east, Mt Desert Island to the west, and Petit Manan Lighthouse to the south. This is an ideal hike for a family, as it's not too strenuous and the climb to the top is relatively short. (Click on the photos above to experience Pigeon Hill's views!)

Acadia Nat'l Park, Cadillac Mountain & Schoodic PointSchoodic Point is known as the quiet side of Acadia National Park (but equally breathtaking, imo). Drive around the 'Acadia' or 'Schoodic' loop and stop along the way to take in the gorgeous views. Miles of bicycle & walking/hiking trails are yours to enjoy. At the summit of Cadillac Mountain, you'll be in awe of the panoramic views of Bar Harbor and the bold Atlantic ocean beyond. If you're lucky, you'll see a tall ship or two anchored in the Harbor. Truly incredible.

Wild Blueberry LandDon't forget to stop-by Wild Blueberry Land in Columbia Falls/Addison, ME, which is approximately a 1/2-hour drive North of Milbridge. Maine is the #1 producer of wild blueberries and you'll find plenty of them here, especially in late Summer (end-of-July & August), which is peak blueberry season! YUM! If you've never tried WILD blueberries from Maine....oh my, you just don't know what you're missing! Seriously! This is such a fun-to-see landmark & what a great day trip for the entire family! Don't forget to snap a mandatory group photo in-front of the large blueberry dome.

McClellan ParkThis breathtaking spot is in Milbridge-proper and is considered to be one of the best-kept secrets in all of DownEast Maine. Inexpensive tent camping sites are available and you can fish right from the shoreline (Pollack & Mackerel). No fishing license is required for saltwater fishing in Maine, btw. The views are spectacular and the Park offers excellent photo ops at every turn with its 'bold rocky' granite shoreline and brilliant blue waters beyond.
